1) There are three Malay words for Time:
- Masa
- Waktu
- Pukul
2) Masa & Waktu
- Both mean Time
- Generally interchangeable in colloquial Malay
- Masais applicable in more situations, so when in doubt, use Masa
- The main difference is Masa can be used when referring to time as something quantifiable – like plenty of time, not enough time, a little time etc
- Whereas Waktu is used for ‘naming’ time – like work time, study time, play time etc
